Peter Burton has practised as a management consultant for the past seven years and currently heads a small firm specialising in organisational effectiveness. He previously had over 25 years experience in full-time general management, during which time he founded two companies and took both public, being instrumental in making and integrating several major acquisitions. He has served as chairman or non-executive director in a number of public and private companies, including the Costain Group plc.
To prepare for his entry into consulting, he completed the Harvard Business School OPM executive program (Unit IV) in 1994 and gained a masters degree in Organisational Behaviour from London University in 1995. His masters' dissertation investigated the influencing tactics of non-executive directors.
His past public service includes 16 years as founder-director of a not-for-profit local enterprise agency, 12 years as a district councillor and three years as chairman of governors of a comprehensive school. He has also served as a governor of the University of Luton.
